• Who is developing Lakeside?

Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities is working in partnership with Winton to develop and deliver the Lakeside development. Read more about Winton here. Winton’s key deliverables include master planning and infrastructure provision. Kāinga Ora will be working closely with a trusted group of builder partners to deliver 1303 homes over the next eight years. In total the development will have 1650 houses. Read more about our builder partners who are building the homes in the next stage of the development here.

  • What types of homes will be available?

For the next stage of development at Lakeside, a range of typologies of predominantly standalone homes will be available from our builder partners. You can read more about the types of homes here.

  • Are there affordable homes at Lakeside?

Yes, at least twenty per cent of the homes delivered by Kāinga Ora at Lakeside will be more affordable homes which will be sold under the Colab Series banner. Lakeside Colab Series homes are only available to eligible owner occupiers, whether first home buyers or not. Initially, these homes will be three bedroom homes priced at, or under $650,000. Colab Series homes may be smaller than those sold at market prices in order to achieve the lower price point, but they are just as warm and well built, like all homes at Lakeside.

  • Will there be a school at Lakeside?

Yes, there will be a new primary school at Lakeside.
The Ministry of Education remains committed to delivering a new school in Lakeside, Te Kauwhata to meet the future roll demand from the Lakeside area. The civil works have been completed by Winton and the site has been handed to the Ministry of Education who have a targeted goal to open in term 1, 2028. Until the new school is delivered, the current Te Kauwhata Primary school site remains fit for purpose to service the network catchment.

  • What else is planned for Lakeside?

There are plans for Lakeside to feature amenities such as recreation areas, a school, child care centre, café and commercial hub. These amenities will be in or close to the Lakeside village centre, which will provide a focal point for residents. Lakeside will also have easy access to transport routes, and road and walking connections through to Te Kauwhata are being improved, including through the recently completed Rimu Road extension. Approximately 6km of walking and cycle trails are planned for Lakeside’s 75 hectares of dedicated reserve wetland and open space.

  • What will be included in the village centre?

Work is already underway on Lakeside’s village centre. The boutique commercial hub will be a meeting place where you can grab a coffee and stroll back to your new home. Besides a great café and childcare centre, Lakeside village will include a general store, playground, office and retail space, along with ample parking.

  • How can I find out more about the timeline for the project and any updates?

We will share information as we go, through newsletters, email updates and here on our website. We have an information centre opening soon in the red shed on Scott Road, where you can pop in and chat to the team. You can also contact us on info@lakeside.co.nz.
