As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability and creating a walkable, bike-friendly community, a new bike repair station has been installed at the Lakeside Village Centre.

Installed on Thursday 12 June 2025, the new facility is designed to support both Lakeside residents and the wider Te Kauwhata community by encouraging cycling as a convenient and sustainable mode of transport. Located near the local superette and the Lakeside Café, the station is easily accessible and perfectly placed for a quick pit stop or emergency repair.

The bike repair station is equipped with a selection of basic tools and a bike pump, giving cyclists everything they need to carry out minor repairs and maintenance on the go. It’s also a great resource for younger riders to learn the basics of bike care and safety.

The Lakeside masterplan includes over 6 kilometres of dedicated walking and cycling trails, along with generous footpaths ranging from 1.5 to 2 metres wide — all designed to promote healthy, active lifestyles. While the full trail network is not yet complete, this new amenity is an important step toward supporting future use and encouraging cycling within the neighbourhood. 

As Te Kauwhata’s population continues to grow — now with over 2,000 residents and another 1,650 homes planned as part of the Lakeside development — it’s important to invest in infrastructure that supports sustainable living. While Te Kauwhata has a bike repair shop operating during weekdays, the new repair station fills a gap by providing a 24/7 public amenity for cyclists.

Whether you’re commuting, exploring the area, or simply out for a weekend ride, this new addition makes it easier than ever to enjoy everything Lakeside has to offer on two wheels.
